TJ Miller: American Comedian and Actor
Early Life and EducationTJ Miller was born in Denver, Colorado, to Leslie Miller, a clinical psychologist, and Kent Miller, an attorney. He attended Graland Country Day School and graduated from Denver East High School, where he participated in drama productions. Miller has a diverse heritage with English, Scottish, German, and Swedish ancestry from his father's side and Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry from his mother's side.
In 2003, Miller graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, focusing on social psychology and situational theory. While at GWU, he was a member of the comedy group receSs and the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. During college, Miller also studied circus arts at the Frichess Theater Urbain in Paris and attended the British American Drama Academy in London, where he studied Shakespeare during the summer.
Career Beginnings: Improv and Stand-Up
After graduating, Miller moved to Chicago and began improvising and performing with several local troupes. He toured with The Second City for two years. In 2008, he was named one of Variety's 10 Comics to Watch.
In 2011, Miller released his stand-up comedy special "No Real Reason" and a comedy album "Mash Up Audiofile" in 2012. He became a regular on the "Chelsea Lately" roundtable and toured with the Funny or Die's Oddball Comedy and Curiosity festival in 2015.
Television: 'Silicon Valley', 'Carpoolers', and Other Projects
Miller's television credits include the sitcom "Carpoolers" (2007-2008), where he played Marmaduke Brooker. He provided the voice of Robbie Valentino in Disney's "Gravity Falls" (2012). He also starred in the short-lived Fox series "The Goodwin Games" (2013) as Jimmy Goodwin.
Miller's most notable role on television came in the HBO sitcom "Silicon Valley" (2014-2017), for which he won a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2015. In May 2017, Miller and HBO announced that he would not be returning for the show's fifth season.
Film: 'Cloverfield', 'Deadpool', and More
Miller's film debut was in the found footage horror "Cloverfield" (2008), where he appeared on-screen for only a few minutes but his voice was heard throughout the film as the character who filmed most of the events depicted. He went on to play Cessna Jim in "Extract" (2009) and the dim-witted grindcore musician Rory in Mike Judge's comedy "Extract" (2009).
Miller voiced the character Tuffnut Thorston in the Academy Award-nominated animated films "How to Train Your Dragon" (2010) and "How to Train Your Dragon 2" (2014). He also appeared in "Gulliver's Travels" (2010), "Yogi Bear" (2010), and "Search Party" (2016).
Miller joined the Transformers franchise in "Transformers: Age of Extinction" (2014). In November 2014, he provided the voice of Fred in the CGI superhero film "Big Hero 6." He also played Weasel in "Deadpool" (2016) and its sequel.

Miller released his concept comedy rap album "The Extended Play EP" in 2011, featuring comedians Bo Burnham, Doug Benson, Pete Holmes, and hip-hop artists Ugly Duckling and Johnny Polygon. He also released the remix EP "The Extended Play. A Remix Tape with Illegal Art" in 2012 and "Mash Up Audiofile" on Comedy Central Records in 2012.
Miller began appearing on the Chicago comedy podcast Red Bar Radio in 2006 as a semi-regular co-host. He also hosts a podcast with fellow comedian Cash Levy called "Cashing in with TJ Miller" on the Nerdist Network.
Personal Life
In 2015, Miller married actress and installation artist Kate Gorney. He identifies as a "positive nihilist." In 2016, he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery against an Uber driver.
Sexual Assault Allegation
In 2017, an anonymous woman alleged that Miller assaulted her during a sexual encounter while they were both students at George Washington University in 2001. Miller denied the allegations, stating that the accuser was a "bitter" former colleague who had been asked to leave their comedy troupe.
