Early Career and Formula Ford
Niels Peter Bundgaard began his racing career as a mechanic. In 1969, he triumphed in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship. The following year, he made his debut in Formula Ford, and in 1971, he relocated to England and claimed third place in the Formula Atlantic championship in his first season.
Formula 2 and Formula 5000
In 1972, Bundgaard participated in the European Formula 2 championship, managing only two points-scoring finishes despite a lack of success. In 1973, he switched to Formula 5000, where he competed until 1977.
Limited Formula 1 Appearances
Bundgaard made five Formula 1 Grand Prix appearances between 1973 and 1974. At the 1973 Swedish Grand Prix, he was forced to give up his car to teammate Howden Ganley before the start. In 1974, he raced as a secondary driver for Williams, starting four times. His best result was an eighth-place finish in Sweden, one lap behind the winner.
