Tom Metzger is a notorious figure known for founding the White Aryan Resistance (WAR). He has been involved in numerous lawsuits and served time in prison for his activities. Early Life and Military Service
Tom Metzger was born on April 9, 1938, in Indiana. After graduating high school, he served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964. Upon his discharge, he moved to Southern California and worked in the electronics industry.
Political Activism
During the 1960s, Metzger became involved in the John Birch Society and participated in anti-communist protests. In 1968, he campaigned for George Wallace's presidential run in California. In the early 1970s, he opposed the Vietnam War and refused to pay taxes.
Ku Klux Klan and White Aryan Resistance
In the mid-1970s, Metzger became a Knight of the Ku Klux Klan. In the summer of 1979, he organized a patrol to apprehend illegal Mexican immigrants. He also allied himself with the White Student Union, which later became the foundation for the Aryan Youth Movement.
White Aryan Resistance
In 1983, Metzger formed the White Aryan Resistance (WAR), a rebranding of the Ku Klux Klan. He actively recruited members and often appeared on television and radio to promote his ideology.
Political Campaigns
Metzger ran for office as a representative in the US House of Representatives in 1980 and for the US Senate in 1982. Both campaigns were unsuccessful.
Later Years
In recent years, Metzger has been a lone advocate for his ideology, hosting weekly radio and internet talk shows. He currently resides in Indiana.
