Tom Peters is an American financial consultant, analyst, and writer. He was born in 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. After completing school, he attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he specialized in engineering. He later earned a Master of Business Administration and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Stanford Business School.

In 1966-1970, Peters served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he worked as an advisor in the White House, focusing on combating drug addiction. In the mid-1970s, Peters became a consultant at the renowned firm McKinsey & Company. In 1981, he founded his own consulting company called the Tom Peters Group.

Peters gained worldwide fame with the publication of his book "In Search of Excellence" in 1982, co-authored with Robert H. Waterman, Jr. The book examined organizational structures of successful American companies and analyzed the latest management trends. It became a bestseller and attracted readers from various backgrounds, not just managers.
