Biography of Tom Sier
Early Life and CareerTom Sier is a former Dutch football player, born on January 1, 1970, in Volendam. He began his professional career at Volendam, making his debut on September 17, 1989, against NEK, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Sier played 24 matches in his debut season in the Dutch league, and his team finished in sixth place. He spent a total of five seasons at Volendam, playing 103 league matches and scoring 3 goals.
Move to Heerenveen
In the middle of the 1993/1994 season, Sier transferred to Heerenveen. During his three and a half seasons at the club, he played 111 matches and scored 3 goals.
Transfer to Ajax
In 1997, Tom Sier joined Ajax in Amsterdam for a transfer fee of 3 million guilders. In his debut season at Ajax, he played 17 league matches and won the Dutch Cup and Championship with the club. However, in August 1999, Sier suffered a serious injury, fracturing his right leg. He had to undergo surgery and had a metal plate inserted into his leg to aid in the healing process. Due to recurring injuries, he only played 29 league matches for Ajax during four seasons.
Move to Sparta Rotterdam and Retirement
On July 1, 2001, Ajax terminated Sier's contract, and a few days later, he joined Sparta Rotterdam as a free agent. He played six matches for Sparta during the 2001/2002 season. At the age of 32, Sier decided to retire from professional football.
Achievements
Tom Sier won the Dutch Championship with Ajax in 1998 and also lifted the Dutch Cup in 1998 and 1999.
