Biography of Tomas Baranauskas

Tomas Baranauskas is a Lithuanian historian whose works are dedicated to the ancient and medieval history of Lithuania. He attended Zhemaialis Middle School from 1981 to 1986 and A. Venuolis Middle School in Aniksciai from 1986 to 1992. From 1992 to 1998, he studied at the Faculty of History at Vilnius University. In 1998, he defended his master's thesis on "The Formation of the Lithuanian State."

Work and Contributions

Following the completion of his master's thesis, Baranauskas continued researching the topic and published the book "The Origins of the Lithuanian State" in 2000. From September 9, 1996, to September 1998, he worked in the Department of the History of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania at the Institute of Lithuanian History. Since September 1998, he has been a part of the Department of Archaeology at the same institute.

Baranauskas has been involved in the Shaiminishkel Archaeological Expedition since 1990. He became a member of the editorial board of the newspaper "Voruta," which is dedicated to the history of Lithuania, in 2001. He has participated in scientific conferences in Belarus, Denmark, Latvia, and Lithuania. He has published scientific articles and written articles for encyclopedias such as Visuotine lietuviu enciklopedija, Vyaliakae Kniastva Litouskae: entsyklapedyia u dvukh tamakh, The Crusades: An Encyclopedia. Additionally, he has written numerous popular science articles on historical topics.

Baranauskas is also the author of the website "Medieval Lithuania" in Lithuanian, English, Russian, Belarusian, and Polish languages, which was established in 2000.
