Born and Raised in DublinTony Dunne was born on July 5, 1941, in Dublin, Ireland. He started his footballing journey at local club Stella Maris before joining Shelbourne in 1958.
Shelbourne Success
Dunne played a pivotal role in Shelbourne's triumph in the 1959 Irish Youth Cup and their victory in the 1960 Irish Cup. His impressive performances caught the attention of English giants Manchester United.
Manchester United Legend
Arrival at Old TraffordIn 1960, Dunne was signed by Manchester United for a fee of around £5,000. He made his debut for the club on October 15, 1960, against Burnley.
Breakthrough and Versatility
After initially being used sparingly, Dunne became a regular starter for United following an injury to Noel Cantwell in November 1961. His ability to play on both the left and right sides of defense made him an invaluable asset.
Championship Glory
Dunne played a crucial role in Manchester United's 1964/65 and 1966/67 First Division championship victories. He was one of only four players to feature in all 42 league games in the 1964/65 title-winning season.

Bolton Wanderers and NASLAfter leaving United, Dunne joined Bolton Wanderers as a free agent. He spent six seasons with Bolton, making 193 appearances. In 1979, he had a brief spell with Detroit Express in the North American Soccer League before retiring.
Coaching and Management
Dunne served as assistant manager of Bolton Wanderers from 1979 to 1981. In 1982, he became manager of Norwegian club Steinkjer, succeeding his former Manchester United teammate Bill Foulkes.
International Career
Ireland CapDunne made his international debut for Ireland on April 8, 1962, against Austria. He represented his country for 13 years, playing 33 times at left-back, right-back, and center-back. He captained the team on four occasions.
