Biography of Tofik Agaguseynov

Tofik Agaguseynov, a General-Colonel, participated in the Vistula-Oder and Berlin operations. He was awarded the Orders of the October Revolution, the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, three Orders of the Red Star, and the Order of the Red Star of the Czechoslovak Republic, as well as 25 medals.

Early Life and Education

Tofik Agaguseynov was born on February 1, 1923, in the city of Sheki, Azerbaijan Republic. His father, Yagub Ragim oglu Agaguseynov, was born in 1890, and his mother, Usliya Gadji kizi Agaguseynova, was born in 1895. He has three children: Elmina (born in 1950), Nazim (born in 1960), and Rona (born in 1961).

In 1940, Tofik Agaguseynov graduated from high school and enrolled in the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute. However, with the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War in 1941, he was called up to serve in the ranks of the Red Army and was sent to the Baku Anti-Aircraft Artillery School. After completing an accelerated training course in 1942, he was appointed as a platoon commander in the Anti-Aircraft Division in Arkhangelsk. He participated in repelling enemy air raids on Arkhangelsk and Severodvinsk, as well as providing anti-aircraft cover for the unloading of transport convoys from America. In 1944, the unit in which Agaguseynov served was redeployed to the 1st Belarusian Front. He took part in the Vistula-Oder and Berlin operations and was awarded the Order of the Red Star, as well as the medals "For the Liberation of Warsaw" and "For the Capture of Berlin".

Military Career

After the war ended, Tofik Agaguseynov enrolled in the Command Faculty of Anti-Aircraft Artillery at the F.E. Dzerzhinsky Military Academy in 1949. Upon graduating in 1954, with the rank of Major, he was appointed as the commander of an Anti-Aircraft Division in Baku. In 1955, he was transferred to the position of officer in charge of artillery combat training at the Headquarters of the Baku Anti-Aircraft District. From 1958 onwards, he held the positions of deputy commander of a regiment, commander of an anti-aircraft missile regiment (1960-1964), deputy commander of the 10th Anti-Aircraft Division in Volgograd (1964-1967), and commander of that division. In February 1968, he was promoted to the rank of Major General. In August 1969, he was appointed as the commander of the 12th Anti-Aircraft Corps. In July 1975, he became the First Deputy Commander of the Baku Anti-Aircraft District, and in 1980, the Commander of the Anti-Aircraft Defense of the Transcaucasian Military District. In 1982, T. Y. Agaguseynov was appointed as the representative of the Supreme Commander of the Unified Armed Forces of the Warsaw Pact member states to the Commander of the Czechoslovak Anti-Aircraft Defense. He was retired from active service in the rank of General-Colonel in 1987.

Later Career and Awards

In April 1997, Tofik Agaguseynov was reinstated in military service in the national army of the Republic of Azerbaijan and appointed as an Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on military affairs. He has been awarded the Orders of the October Revolution, the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, three Orders of the Red Star, the Order of the Red Star of the Czechoslovak Republic, and 25 medals. He currently lives and works in the city of Baku.
