Early Life and Education
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, to a diverse family of Zulu, Indian, Mauritian, and Irish descent, Sitala attended Edenglen High School, where she became head of the Cultural Department in 2019. Her passion for music led her to share original songs and covers on her Instagram account.
Discovery and Musical Journey
Garth von Glehn, Sitala's first manager, discovered her talent and facilitated her first recording sessions. Prior to pursuing music full-time, she was studying Mining Engineering. Her breakout single, "Getting Late" featuring Kooldrink, gained domestic success, leading her to sign with Epic Records in 2021.
International Breakthrough
Sitala's global breakthrough came with her 2023 single "Water." The song chart-topping in over ten countries, including the US, UK, and Australia. Not only was it the first song by a South African solo artist to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 in 55 years, but it also earned her Grammy, Soul Train Music Award, and two South African Music Award nominations.
Musical Style and Planned Album
Sitala showcases versatility in her music, blending pop, amapiano, and contemporary R&B. Her self-titled debut album is scheduled for release on March 22, 2024.
