Biography of Umit Davala

Umit Davala is a Turkish football player and coach who was born on July 30, 1973, in Germany. He had a successful career as a professional footballer, playing for various clubs in Germany and Turkey.

Early Career

Umit Davala started his football journey in amateur clubs in Germany and Turkey before joining the first Turkish league club, Diyarbakirspor, on loan. After the loan period, he transferred to Galatasaray, where he spent five seasons and won three Turkish championships, the UEFA Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup.

International Success

Throughout his career, Umit Davala represented the Turkish national team. He was part of the team that achieved great success in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, winning the bronze medal. During the tournament, he gained attention for his iconic mohawk hairstyle and scored crucial goals against China and Japan.

Club Transfers and Injuries

In 2001, Umit Davala joined AC Milan alongside coach Fatih Terim for a transfer fee of 5 million euros. However, Terim's resignation within two months led to a loss of playing time for Umit under Carlo Ancelotti. He was later loaned to Internazionale and then to Werder Bremen, where he became a champion and won the German Cup.

Retirement and Coaching Career

Due to injuries, Umit Davala's playing time decreased, and he officially retired from professional football in January 2006. After retiring, he became the captain of the Turkish national futsal team during the qualification tournament for the 2007 European Championship.

Umit Davala also ventured into coaching, starting as the coach of the Turkish national youth team in June 2008. He then joined Galatasaray as an assistant coach but was eventually dismissed in October of the same year.

Aside from his football career, Umit Davala released a rap album titled "UD 2004" in 2004.
