Euthanasia Scandal

Arnold's activities caught the press's attention due to suspicions, which soon became supported by evidence, that he, along with other doctors, was assisting terminally ill patients in ending their lives. After a few months, Arnold admitted to performing illegal "procedures" that actually involved increasing the dosage of specific medications, causing the patient to not notice the onset of death. In an interview, he confessed, "I am tired of tolerating this hypocrisy. I want to finally see euthanasia legalized, so that we can start training specialists in this field. All of this is to make people's last days better."

Court Ruling and Advocacy

Arnold faced trial for his actions but was unanimously acquitted. The court based its decision on a German law that allows doctors to prescribe medications that hasten the death of terminally ill patients, with the consent of the patient or their relatives. According to German doctors, illegal euthanasia is practiced in almost all hospitals in the country, but medical professionals must take maximum precautions due to the lack of appropriate legislation.

Arnold currently holds the position of director at "Dignitate-Deutschland," the German branch of the Swiss organization "Dignitas," which aims to legalize euthanasia in Europe. The organization is working towards the creation of a corresponding law in Germany. Surveys show that approximately 80% of Germans support euthanasia legalization in the country.

The Role of Switzerland

Switzerland has earned a reputation as a "last refuge" in the heart of Europe. In recent years, the legalization of euthanasia has noticeably increased the influx of suicides to the country. For a fee, any foreigner can commit "legal suicide" on Swiss territory, but this requires undergoing several checks and spending a certain amount of time in the country, during which doctors believe that a person may regain love for life and change their mind.
