Biography of Uzi Landau
Early Life and EducationUzi Landau was born on August 2, 1943, in Haifa, Israel, to Chaim and Olga Landau. His father, a prominent Etzel activist, later became a Knesset member for Herut and Likud and served as a minister.
After serving in the Israel Defense Forces Paratroopers, Landau continued his military service in combat units of army intelligence. He then pursued higher education, earning a bachelor's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a master's degree from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, and a doctorate from MIT, specializing in systems analysis.
Professional Career
Following his studies, Landau taught at the Technion and served as the Director-General of the Ministry of Transport. He also held positions on the boards of El Al Israel Airlines and Israel Airlines.
Political Career
Minister of Energy and Infrastructure (1984-1992)Landau entered politics in 1984, serving as the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure under Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir.
Minister of Interior Security (2003-2006)
In 2003, Landau became Minister of Interior Security under Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. He became a prominent critic of Sharon's plan to disengage from settlements in the Gaza Strip and voted against it in the Knesset.
Opposition to Ariel Sharon
In 2004, Landau was dismissed from the government after opposing Sharon's disengagement plan. He remained outside the Knesset until 2009.
Return to Politics with Yisrael Beiteinu (2009-2013)
In 2008, Landau joined Yisrael Beiteinu, a right-wing party led by Avigdor Lieberman. He was elected to the Knesset in the 2009 elections and served as the Minister of National Infrastructure from 2009 to 2013.
Personal Life
Landau was married and had three children. He resided in Ra'anana, Israel.
