Vadim Nikolaevich Gurov
Early Life and EducationBorn in 1936, Vadim Nikolaevich Gurov graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk Metallurgical Institute in 1959 with a degree in metallurgical engineering.
Career in Metallurgy
From 1959 to 1994, Gurov worked at the Krivorozhstal plant, rising from a steelmaker's assistant to the head of the marten furnace shop. He also simultaneously managed the marten and converter shops.
Political Career
Gurov was elected to the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament, in 2002 as an independent candidate. He served as the Chairman of the Committee on Basic Industries and Socio-Economic Development of Regions.
Legacy
Gurov's influence on Ukrainian metallurgy is significant. His so-called "Gurov's Law" on economic experimentation provided stability to the industry in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He also secured a 1% share of the Krivorozhstal plant's sale for the development of Krivoy Rog, earning him the city's honorary citizenship.
