Biography of Colonel Oleksandr Sukharevskyi

Early Life and Military Career

Oleksandr Sukharevskyi was born on October 6, 1984, in Berehove, Zakarpattia Oblast. He graduated from Mukachevo Lyceum with enhanced military and physical training. From February to October 2004, he served in the 6th Separate Mechanized Brigade as part of the Peacekeeping Mission in Iraq. He participated in the Battle of Al-Kut during this deployment.

Education and Training

In 2009, Sukharevskyi graduated from the Lviv Institute of Land Forces of the National University "Lviv Polytechnic" with a degree in "Combat Application and Management of Actions of Airmobile Units." In 2011, he earned the rank of Senior Lieutenant and became the commander of an airmobile company in the 80th Separate Airmobile Regiment.

Russian-Ukrainian Conflict

On April 13, 2014, Sukharevskyi participated in the first battle in Donbas near Semenivka. As a Senior Lieutenant, he opened fire from his armored personnel carrier on Igor Girkin's militants who were attacking fighters from the SBU's Alpha special unit. He was wounded in August 2014 during fighting near Krasnyi. From 2014 to 2016, he studied at Ivan Cherniakhovskyi National Defense University of Ukraine.

Marine Corps Command

From 2016 to 2021, Sukharevskyi commanded the 1st Battalion of the 36th Marine Brigade and participated in operations in the Mariupol area. From 2021 to 2022, he served as Chief of Staff of the 35th Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Ostrogradskyi.

Brigade Commander

In February 2022, Sukharevskyi became the commander of the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Yakiv Gandzyuk.

Hero of Ukraine

On June 18, 2022, Sukharevskyi was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. By that time, he had been promoted to the rank of Colonel.

Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

On February 9, 2024, Sukharevskyi was appointed the Head of Drone Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On February 10, 2024, he was appointed Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
