Education and Early Career
Valérie Rabault, a French politician, graduated from the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées with a degree in economics and engineering. She worked as an inspector at Société Générale and managed market risks at BNP Paribas. In 2009, she was ranked among the 100 most influential women in European finance.
Parliamentary Career
Election to the National Assembly (2012)In 2012, Rabault was elected to the French National Assembly representing the constituency of Tarn-et-Garonne's 1st District. She became the first woman to serve as General Rapporteur on the Budget for the National Assembly in 2014. She actively promoted legislation to combat tax evasion, which ultimately failed to pass.
Socialist Party Leadership
Temporary Executive Board Member (2017-2018)In the wake of the Socialist Party's disastrous defeat in the 2017 parliamentary elections, Valérie Rabault joined the party's 16-member temporary collective leadership.
Chairwoman of the New Left Group (2018-Present)
Following the election of Olivier Faure as First Secretary of the Socialist Party in 2018, Rabault emerged as the sole female leader of a faction in the National Assembly. She defeated her rivals to assume the chairmanship of the New Left Group, securing 21 votes from its members.
