After leaving the ballet, Vera married Raymond J. Maxwell in 1932, a union that lasted 13 years. In 1938, she wed architect Carlisle H. Johnson, a marriage that ended in 1945. Throughout the 1930s, Vera ventured into fashion design, garnering recognition for her innovative creations.
