Biography of Vyacheslav Shevchuk
Professional Football CareerVyacheslav Shevchuk is a Ukrainian professional football player, defender, and coach. He was born on May 13, 1979, in Lutsk, Ukraine. Shevchuk started playing football at a local sports school and began his adult career in 1996 with Kovel, a semi-professional team from Khmelnytskyi, where he played 38 matches. From 1998 to 2000, he played for Zaporizhia's Metalurh. In 2002, Shevchuk moved to Donetsk to join Shakhtar, playing 12 matches for the first team and 13 matches for Shakhtar-2. He also played two matches for Donetsk's Metalurh in the same year. Shevchuk then moved abroad to join Russia's Shinnik in 2002 and played for Dnipro in the 2004/05 season. He returned to Shakhtar in 2005 and quickly became a key player, winning the Ukrainian championship in his first season back. Throughout his career, Shevchuk won the national championship six more times with Shakhtar, and in 2009, he won the UEFA Cup, his only international trophy. In total, Shevchuk won 16 trophies with Shakhtar. He announced his retirement on December 27, 2016.
International Career
Shevchuk made his debut for the Ukrainian national team in 2003. He played a total of 54 matches for the national team and was included in the squad for the UEFA Euro 2012, although he did not play in any matches. Shevchuk was also part of the squad for the UEFA Euro 2016, where he played in two matches against Germany (2-0, Ukraine's defeat) and Northern Ireland (2-0, Ukraine's defeat). Ukraine finished last in their group without earning any points or scoring any goals. Shevchuk served as the vice-captain of the Ukrainian national team during the tournament, leading the team onto the field with the captain's armband, although the official captain was Anatoliy Tymoshchuk. After Euro 2016, Shevchuk retired from international football.
Coaching Career
In September 2017, Shevchuk began his coaching career as the head coach of the Shakhtar U-17 youth team. On October 3, 2018, he became the head coach of Donetsk's Olimpik. He made his coaching debut with a 1-0 defeat against Dynamo Kyiv. However, on April 17, 2019, Shevchuk left his position as the head coach of FC Olimpik.
