Biographer

Ukrainian statesman, diplomat, and academician Serhiy Ivanovich Kunitsyn was born on February 6, 1946, in Vladivostok.

Education

In 1970, Kunitsyn graduated from Kharkiv State University with a degree in radio physics.

Career

From September 1970 to March 1973, he worked as an engineer and senior engineer at the Kharkiv Institute of Radio Physics. From April 1973 to September 1974, he served as an engineer-technologist at the Sevastopol Trolleybus Administration. In September 1974, Kunitsyn became an assistant and senior lecturer at the Physics Department of the Sevastopol Instrument-Making Institute. In February 1986, he was elected chairman of the trade union of the institute.

Political Activity

From May 1992 to April 1998, Kunitsyn chaired the Sevastopol City Council of People's Deputies. During this period, from June 1994 to July 1995, he also headed the Executive Committee of the Sevastopol City Council. From July 1994 to April 1998, he was a member of the Council of Heads of Border Regions of Ukraine and Russia. In December 1995, Kunitsyn became a member of the Commission on Maritime Policy under the President of Ukraine. From July 1995 to April 1998, he served as chairman of the Sevastopol City State Administration.

Diplomatic Career

In May 1998, Kunitsyn was appointed Chief Advisor to the Group of Ambassadors at Large and Chief Advisors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. From September 1998, he became Consul General of Ukraine in St. Petersburg.

Awards

Kunitsyn was awarded the Honorary Distinction of the President of Ukraine in 1996.
