Early Life and Career
Viktor Andreyevich Yushchenko, Ukraine's second president, was born on February 23, 1954, in Sumy Oblast. He graduated from Ternopil Financial and Economic Institute and earned a Ph.D. in Economics. In 1976, he entered the banking sector.
Rise in Banking and Politics
From 1985 to 1993, Yushchenko held key positions in the Ukrainian Republican Office of the State Bank, including Deputy Director and Director. In 1993, he became Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine, a position he held until 1999.
Premiership and Economic Reforms
In 1999, Yushchenko was appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine by the direct recommendation of the US administration. He implemented significant economic reforms, earning high public approval. However, he resigned in 2001 under pressure from both the opposition and oligarchic groups.
Political Career and International Recognition
Despite his resignation, Yushchenko maintained popularity and established a reputation as a moderate and reasonable politician. He enjoyed international recognition for his financial expertise and was considered one of the top ten bankers globally.

In 2002, Yushchenko formed and led the "Our Ukraine" electoral bloc, which won 23.57% of votes in the parliamentary elections. His legacy is marked by his leadership during the 2004 Orange Revolution, which led to a re-run of the presidential election that he eventually won. Throughout his presidency, he faced challenges from both the opposition and his political allies.
