Biography of Vitaliy Bezgolosov

Vitaliy Bezgolosov was born on May 20, 1920, in the village of Kamenka, currently located in the Tavricheskoye district of the East Kazakhstan region. He grew up in a working-class family and attended seven years of school before joining a factory apprentice school. After completing his education, Bezgolosov worked as a metallurgist at a lead plant in the city of Riddler (Leninogorsk), in the East Kazakhstan region.

In 1941, Bezgolosov enlisted in the Red Army and joined the fight on the Eastern Front of the Great Patriotic War in 1942. He served as a sniper in the 227th Rifle Regiment of the 183rd Rifle Division, part of the 38th Army and later the 4th Ukrainian Front. Throughout his military service, Bezgolosov proved himself as a skilled sniper, eliminating over 270 fascist soldiers and officers. Additionally, he trained more than 600 young soldiers in the art of sniping.

On April 30, 1945, Bezgolosov performed his final act of valor near the city of Moravska-Ostrava, Czechoslovakia. He single-handedly killed eight fascists and sacrificed his own life while rescuing a wounded commander. For his bravery and military prowess, Bezgolosov was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on May 15, 1946. He was also decorated with various orders and medals, including the Order of Lenin, Red Banner, Red Star, and the Order of Glory 3rd degree.

Vitaliy Bezgolosov was laid to rest in the town of Gluchin, North Moravian region, Czechoslovakia. He will forever be remembered as a fearless sniper, a true hero of the Soviet Union, who fought valiantly for the freedom of his homeland.
