Biography of Vladimir Darbinyan

Vladimir Sarkisovich Darbinyan was an Armenian statesman who was born on April 10, 1931, in the village of Achajur, Ijevan. He held various important positions throughout his career and made significant contributions to the Armenian government and society.

Education and Early Career

Darbinyan attended the historical faculty of Yerevan State University from 1949 to 1954. He continued his education at the law faculty of the same university from 1971 to 1976. He was awarded two Orders of the Red Banner of Labour in 1965 and 1970 for his academic achievements.

Political Career

Darbinyan's political career started in 1954 when he became the first secretary of the Ijevan district committee of the Leninist Communist Youth Union (LKSM) of Armenia. From 1957 to 1963, he served as the second and then the first secretary of the Central Committee of LKSM in Armenia.

In 1963, Darbinyan was appointed as the first secretary of the Octemberyan district committee of the Communist Party of Armenia (KPA). He held this position until 1969 when he became the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Armenian SSR. During his tenure as minister, he reached the rank of Major General.

From 1975 to 1991, Darbinyan served as the Deputy Minister of Justice of the Armenian SSR. He was also a member of the KPA party during this time. In 1991, he became the chairman of the Union of Lawyers of Armenia, a position he held until 1994.

Darbinyan was a member of the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR from 1990 to 1995 and later became a member of the parliament from 1995 to 1999. In May 1999, he was re-elected as a parliament member and became a member of the permanent commission on defense, national security, and internal affairs. He remained a member of the KPA party throughout his political career.

In January 2000, Darbinyan became the first secretary of the Central Committee of the KPA. He also worked as the general director of the Sardarapat Memorial Complex from 1998 to 2002. In 2003, he ran as a candidate for the presidency of Armenia.

Vladimir Darbinyan dedicated his life to serving his country and was an influential figure in Armenian politics and governance.
