Early Life and Career
Vsevolods Zelonijs was born in 1973 in Riga, Latvia. He began his judo career at a young age, displaying exceptional talent and determination.
Olympic Success
Zelonijs's greatest achievement came at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, where he won the bronze medal in the 73 kg weight category. He competed in four Olympic Games in total, showcasing his consistency and resilience.
Post-Olympic Career
Following his Olympic success, Zelonijs transitioned into coaching and administration. He is currently the President of the Latvian Judo Federation and the Latvian Sambo Federation. Additionally, he established his own judo schools in Riga and Jurmala.
Recognition and Honors
In 2015, at the opening ceremony of the "Latvian Open" tournament, Zelonijs was awarded the prestigious "6th Dan" degree. This honor was presented to him by Oleg Baskins, the Senior Coach of the Latvian National Team and Zelonijs's former coach.
