Early Life and Education

Vytautas Blože was born in Lithuania and attended secondary schools in Kedainiai and Šeduva. His studies were disrupted when his parents were exiled to Siberia. He worked as an electrician and accountant before completing his high school diploma in Kaunas in 1949.

Literary Career

Blože enrolled in the Vilnius Pedagogical Institute to study Russian philology. He began writing poetry and poems, publishing his first collection in 1961. From 1951 to 1956, he worked at the State Publishing House of Art Literature.

Censorship and Exile

Between 1966 and 1981, Blože's works were banned from publication. He was forced to live in Drūskininkai during this period.

Translation and Recognition

Blože translated works by renowned poets such as Lermontov, Pushkin, Schiller, Heine, Rilke, and Cavafy into Lithuanian. His own writings were translated into English, Polish, and Russian, with George Efremov providing Russian translations.
