Wagner dos Santos: A Versatile Brazilian Midfielder
Wagner dos Santos, a renowned Brazilian midfielder, has left an indelible mark on football history with his extraordinary journey across various clubs in Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Turkey.
Early Career and Departure to Saudi Arabia
Born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Wagner's career began at América Mineiro. Two years later, he joined the legendary Cruzeiro, a club known for nurturing Brazilian footballing talent. In January 2007, Wagner's skills took him to Saudi Arabia, where he signed with Al-Ittihad Jeddah for a staggering 9 million euros. However, after Al-Ittihad failed to fulfill its financial obligations, Wagner returned to Cruzeiro in June 2007, helping the club secure the Saudi Arabian championship title.
Transfer to Lokomotiv Moscow
On August 7, 2009, Russian giants Lokomotiv Moscow announced the acquisition of Wagner for 6 million euros. He made his debut three days later against CSKA Moscow, and swiftly scored his first goal for the club in a match against Zenit St. Petersburg. Wagner's impressive performance for Lokomotiv earned him a fourth-place finish in the 2009 Russian Premier League. However, an injury sidelined him for much of the following season.
Move to Turkey and International Representation
In December 2010, Wagner signed a 4.5-year contract with Gaziantepspor in Turkey. Throughout his career, Wagner represented Brazil's under-17 and under-20 teams, showcasing his exceptional abilities. Although he was called up to the national team, he never made an official appearance in competitive matches.
