Biography of Wayde Preston

Wayde Preston, born William Erksine Strange, was an American actor. He was born in Denver, Colorado in 1929 and grew up in Laramie, Wyoming. His parents, John and Bernice Strange, were both school teachers, and he had two younger sisters, Joan and Mary.

Early Life and Education

Wayde Preston graduated from Laramie High School in 1947. During his time in high school, he was an active athlete, playing football and participating in track and field. He also played in the school's music group. He later attended the University of Wyoming, specializing in pharmacology. However, his musical talent led him to join various musical groups as a bass player.

Military Service and Career

Wayde Preston was called into the army and served in the Korean War, holding the rank of First Lieutenant. After his military service, he worked in Grand Teton National Park and obtained a pilot's license. In 1956, he married Carol Ohmart, but the marriage ended in less than two years.

In the late 1950s, Preston made his television debut, notably starring in the series "Colt .45" as the character Christopher Colt. This role brought him significant recognition and fame. He also appeared in the series "Sugarfoot" and "Maverick." Throughout the late 1960s and 1970s, Preston actively acted in western films. In 1968, he played a key character in "Oggi a me... domani a te!" and also appeared in the war historical drama "Lo sbarco di Anzio." The same year, he played a supporting role in "L'ira di Dio." Continuing in the same genre, Preston took on the lead role in "Pagó cara su muerte" in 1969, which centered around a group of Mexican outcasts organizing a major robbery. He also played the lead role in "Dio perdoni la mia pistola" as Johnny Brennan. In the following year, he had leading roles in two genre films, "Ehi amigo... sei morto!" and "Sartana nella valle degli avvoltoi."

Later Years and Death

Preston successfully battled cancer through surgery in the late 1970s. In the 1980s, he made appearances in films such as "Smokey and the Judge." In 1990, he played his final role in the science fiction action film "Captain America." Wayde Preston passed away on February 6, 1992, due to cancer.
