Józef Bazyli Krasiński
Early Life and Military CareerJózef Bazyli Krasiński was born on April 5, 1782, in the village of Boremel, Poland. He came from a noble lineage and received his education in Lviv and Warsaw. In 1791, he joined the cavalry of the Polish Kingdom. By 1793, he had risen to the rank of lieutenant.
Napoleonic Wars
In 1806, with the outbreak of the campaign against the Russians, Krasiński raised a cavalry squadron at his own expense and led it at the Battle of Pułtusk. For his bravery, he was promoted to colonel on December 15.
In 1807, he served on Napoleon's staff and participated in the Battle of Preußisch-Eylau, where he was wounded in the right leg and received the Legion of Honour. He was then appointed commander of the 3rd Cavalry Jäger Regiment and later the Polish Lancer Regiment of the French Guard.
Spanish Campaign and Honors
Krasiński fought in the Spanish War of 1808, where his unit gained renown for its charge at Somosierra. He was wounded in the knee during the fighting in Madrid. For his service, he received the Polish Virtuti Militari Order and was made a Count of the French Empire in 1811.
Campaign in Austria and Russia
In 1809, Krasiński fought in the campaign against the Austrians at Essling and Wagram, where he was wounded several times. At Wagram, he commanded the vanguard of MacDonald's corps and captured Prince Auersperg with his 4,000-strong detachment and 45 cannons.
In 1812, he participated in Napoleon's Russian campaign, distinguishing himself at Smolensk, Borodino, Krasny, and the Beresina River.
Later Military Career and Honors
Krasiński continued to fight throughout the war, participating in major battles such as Bautzen, Dresden, Leipzig, Freiburg, and Brienne. He was promoted to divisional general in 1813 and received the Polish Order of St. Stanislaus, 1st class.
