Early Life and Education
Born into an impoverished family in Orhei, Bessarabia (present-day Moldova), Stefan Dodilich attended elementary school in his hometown before apprenticing as a leatherworker.
Involvement in Communist Underground
In the early 1920s, Dodilich became actively involved in communist and trade union activities. His involvement led to multiple arrests and imprisonment in Kishinev (1931-32) and the notorious Romanian political prison, Doftana (1932-40).
Release and Post-Prison Life
After the annexation of Bessarabia by the Soviet Union in 1940, Dodilich was released from prison. He then worked in light industry enterprises in Kishinev for the remainder of his life.
