Early Life and Education

Wu Bangguo was born in July 1941 in Feidong County, Anhui Province. He went on to pursue his higher education at the prestigious Tsinghua University in Beijing, where he studied Radio Electronics.

Political Career

Wu's political journey began with his admission into the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1964. In 1985, he became a candidate member of the CPC Central Committee, and in 1992, he was appointed to the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee.

Leadership in Shanghai

From April 1991 to 1994, Wu served as the Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CPC. During this time, he oversaw the city's rapid economic growth and development.

Vice Premier of China

In March 1995, Wu was appointed as Vice Premier of the State Council of China, becoming one of the youngest individuals to hold this position at the age of 53. He was responsible for industry and the reform of loss-making state-owned enterprises.

Chairman of the National People's Congress

On March 15, 2003, Wu was elected Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) by the first session of the 10th NPC. He became the second-highest ranking official in China's political hierarchy.

Policies and Legacy

Under Wu's leadership, the NPC played an important role in implementing China's economic reforms and strengthening its legal framework. He advocated for a market-oriented economy and the rule of law.
