Early Life and Career

Born in Paris in 1946, Yann Arthus-Bertrand's passion for nature led him from acting to environmentalism. After graduating from acting school, he briefly appeared in the 1965 film "Dis-moi qui tuer." However, in 1967, he left Paris for a reserve in central France, where his fascination with nature began.

Photography and Wildlife

As a park ranger, Arthus-Bertrand became inspired to protect and showcase the beauty of the natural world. He began photography and embarked on a book project about lions in Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve in 1976. It was there that he first experimented with aerial photography, which would later become his signature style.

The Birth of "Earth from the Air"

In 1981, Arthus-Bertrand returned to France and gained recognition as a photographer and photojournalist. While covering sporting events like the Paris-Dakar rallies, he remained drawn to aerial perspectives. In 1991, he founded the Altitude Agency in Paris, specializing in aerial photography. With UNESCO's support from 1994 onward, he embarked on his ambitious project, "Earth from the Air."

Documenting the Planet

Arthus-Bertrand's "Earth from the Air" project has captured vast landscapes from every corner of the globe. Through breathtaking aerial images and a documentary film, he highlights both the beauty and vulnerability of our planet. With over 4,000 hours spent in helicopters and visits to more than 150 countries, he has become a relentless advocate for environmental protection.

Impact and Legacy

Arthus-Bertrand's work has garnered worldwide acclaim and inspired exhibitions around the world. His 2009 documentary, "Home," continued his mission of raising awareness about environmental issues. Today, he remains an influential figure in aerial photography, using his platform to promote harmony between humans and the natural world.
