Junior Career


During his junior career, Bhambri established himself as a promising young talent. In 2008, he became the number one junior player in the world. The following year, he won the Junior Australian Open Boys singles title by defeating Alexandros-Ferdinandos Georgoudas from Germany in the final. Bhambri also participated in all the junior Grand Slam tournaments, reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open.

Transition to Professional Tennis


After his success in the junior circuit, Bhambri decided to focus on professional tournaments, with exceptions for junior Grand Slam events. In 2008, at the age of 15, he participated in several Future and Challenger events in India. However, his main interest remained in ITF junior tournaments meant for players above the age of 16.

Breakthrough and Sponsorship


Bhambri's breakthrough came when he won the prestigious Orange Bowl tournament, which earned him a wildcard entry into the Sony Ericsson Open. The IMG agency, the organizer of the tournament, placed him in the main draw, where he had the opportunity to face top professional players such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. Bhambri, unfortunately, lost in the first round to Diego Junqueira from Argentina. He also received a wildcard entry into the Chennai Open but was defeated by his compatriot Sanam Singh. Bhambri's victory at the Junior Australian Open earned him a spot in the main draw of the Australian Open 2010.

In 2010, Bhambri secured a sponsorship deal with 'Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Club Mahindra Holidays (MHRIL)' for a five-year contract.

Achievements and Olympics


In August, Bhambri reached the final of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and won the silver medal. Although he was expected to compete in the doubles event with Leander Paes at the 2012 London Olympics, he was replaced by Vishnu Vardhan.
