Political Career in Ukrainian SSR

Ivan Turyanytsia was a prominent political figure in the Ukrainian SSR. From 1939, he worked in the countryside before joining the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1945. Following this, he held various party leadership positions:

Inspector of the Volovetsky (Mezghorsky) District Committee

Second Secretary of the Volovetsky District Committee (1947-1949)
First Secretary of the Volovetsky District Committee (1949-1951)
Inspector of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine
Secretary of the Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine

First Secretary of the Uzhhorod City Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine (1956-1959)

As First Secretary of Zakarpattia Oblast

In 1959, Turyanytsia became the Second Secretary of the Zakarpattia Oblast Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine. From 1962 to 1980, he served as the First Secretary of the Committee, during which time he had close personal ties with Leonid Brezhnev.

Influence and Recognition

Turyanytsia was a prominent figure in Ukrainian politics. He was a delegate to the XXII, XXIII, XXIV, and XXV Congresses of the Communist Party of Ukraine and was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine from 1961 to 1981. He was also elected as a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from 1962 to 1984.

Later Life and Legacy

After retiring from politics, Turyanytsia became involved with the Zakarpattia Organization of Veterans of Ukraine and authored a memoir titled "Memories: From Lived and Experienced." He was honored with the Order of Merit III degree in 2006, and became an honorary citizen of Uzhhorod in 2012. Additionally, he received the Gratitude of the Zakarpattia Oblast Council in 2011.
