Early Life and Education
Yuriy Kuzheluk was born into a teacher's family, who relocated to Lviv in 1953. He attended Secondary School No. 37 from 1957 to 1967. Subsequently, he pursued his higher education at the Lviv Polytechnic Institute's Radio Engineering Faculty from 1967 to 1972.
Military Service and Engineering Career
Following his graduation, Kuzheluk served in the Soviet Army in the Transcaucasus region from 1972 to 1974, attaining the rank of Senior Lieutenant in the Air Defense Missile Forces. Upon his discharge, he worked as an engineer at the "Elektron" Design Bureau (1974-1975) and later as a Senior Engineer at the Lviv Polytechnic Institute (1975-1977).
Scientific and Organizational Work
From 1977 to 1997, Kuzheluk held various positions at the Lviv Institute of Physical Mechanics, including Engineer, Senior Engineer, Leading Designer, and Head of Sector. He significantly contributed to the development and implementation of advanced radio engineering technologies.
Political Activism and Leadership
In 1989, Kuzheluk joined the "People's Movement of Ukraine for Restructuring." His political involvement grew, and in 1994, he became the Deputy Chairman of the Lviv Oblast (regional) organization of the Ukrainian National Party ("Rukh" under Yuriy Kostenko). He held key positions in electoral commissions, overseeing regional and presidential elections.
Public Administration and Electoral Success
From 1997 to 1998, Kuzheluk served as Head of the Political and Legal Department of the Lviv Oblast State Administration. He subsequently became Deputy Head of the Lviv Oblast Administration's Press and Information Department (1998). In 1998, he was elected to the Lviv Oblast Council.
Party Leadership and Community Involvement
Following the dissolution of "Rukh" in 1999, Kuzheluk joined the Ukrainian People's Party ("Rukh" under Yuriy Kostenko). He became a member of the party's "Central Executive Committee" and led the Lviv City Organization of the Ukrainian National Party from 2000 to 2008. Additionally, he was elected to the Lviv City Council in 2002 and 2006, serving as the leader of the Ukrainian National Party faction.
"Orange Revolution" and Community Leadership
At the outset of the "Orange Revolution" in November 2004, Kuzheluk was appointed Head of the "Lviv Maidan" by the "Committee for the National Salvation of the Lviv Region." He played a pivotal role in organizing mass protests and rallying support for the movement.
