Biography of Yuri Kalitvintsev

Yuri Kalitvintsev is a former Soviet and Ukrainian football player and coach. He was born on January 29, 1964, in Volgograd, Soviet Union. Kalitvintsev started his football career as a midfielder and went on to become one of the most successful players and coaches in Ukrainian football history.

Playing Career

Kalitvintsev began his professional playing career with the Volgograd-based club "Rotor" in 1985. He played for "Rotor" until 1986 when he transferred to the Rostov-based club "SKA" as part of his military service. In 1988, Kalitvintsev returned to "Rotor" and played for the team until 1991. He then joined the Moscow-based club "Dynamo" and achieved significant success, winning two bronze medals in the Russian Championship.

In 1994, Kalitvintsev played for the reserve team of "Dynamo" before transferring to the Nizhny Novgorod-based club "Lokomotiv" for the remainder of the season. Despite suffering a leg fracture during a match against "Spartak" Vladikavkaz, he was invited to join the Kiev-based club "Dynamo" by the club's president Grigory Surkis. Kalitvintsev declined an offer from Moscow's "Torpedo" and joined "Dynamo" Kiev.

In 1998, Kalitvintsev moved to the Turkish club "Trabzonspor," but left the team a few months later due to unpaid wages. He ended his playing career in 2000, playing for the Kiev-based club "CSKA."

Kalitvintsev also represented the Ukrainian national team, playing 22 matches and scoring one goal. He switched his citizenship from Russian to Ukrainian during his playing career.

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Kalitvintsev embarked on a coaching career. He worked with the club "Zakarpattia" in Uzhgorod from 2001 to 2002. Kalitvintsev then served as the coach of the Ukrainian youth national team from 2003 to 2006.

Since 2007, Kalitvintsev has been coaching the team "Dynamo-2" in Kiev, together with Gennadiy Litovchenko. The team competes in the first league of Ukrainian football.

Achievements

Throughout his career, Kalitvintsev achieved numerous successes and accolades. He won four Ukrainian championships with "Dynamo" Kiev from 1995 to 1998. Kalitvintsev also won the Ukrainian Cup twice in 1996 and 1998.

Additionally, he was a two-time winner of the Commonwealth of Independent States Cup in 1997 and 1998. Kalitvintsev was recognized as one of the best football players in the Russian Championship, placing second in 1992 and third in 1994. He was awarded the Ukrainian Footballer of the Year in 1995 and achieved third place in 1997.
