Yuri Petrovich Nikitin was born on August 23, 1928, in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. His parents were Peter Pavlovich Nikitin (1890-1937) and Anfisya Afanasyevna Nikitina (1896-1945). In 1950, he graduated from the Novosibirsk Medical Institute.

Early Career and Research Interests

After graduating, Nikitin worked as a physician at a hospital in Novokuznetsk (1950-1953) before becoming an assistant and associate professor at the Novokuznetsk Institute for the Improvement of Physicians (1953-1968). His research interests initially focused on hematology and hemostasis.

Professorship and Leadership at Novosibirsk

In 1968, he became the Head of the Department of Therapy at the Faculty of Advanced Medical Training at the Novosibirsk State Medical Institute, a position he held until 2003. From 1970 to 1980, he served as Pro-Rector for Scientific Research at the institute. In 1980, he became deputy chairman of the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (SB RAMS).
