Biography of Zinaida Greceanaya

Zinaida Greceanaya is a Moldovan politician and former Prime Minister of Moldova. She was born on February 7, 1956, in the Tomsk Oblast. She graduated from the Chisinau Financial-Economic College and the Chisinau State University with a degree in economics.

Early Career

After completing college in 1974, Greceanaya worked as the chief accountant, senior inspector, senior inspector-auditor, and head of the budget department at the Brichany District Financial Management from 1974 to 1991. From 1991 to 1994, she served as the head of the budget department, deputy head of the Brichany District Financial and Economic Management, acting deputy chairman of the Brichany District Executive Committee, and acting head of the Brichany District Financial and Economic Management.

In 1994-1996, Greceanaya held the position of deputy head of the Budget Department of the Ministry of Finance and head of the department of local budgets. From 1996 to 2000, she worked as the head of the Main Budget Development and Synthesis Department and director of the Budget Department.

Political Career

In 2000-2001, Zinaida Greceanaya became the Deputy Minister of Finance, and from 2001 to 2002, she served as the First Deputy Minister of Finance. On February 8, 2002, by the decree of the President of Moldova, she was appointed as the Acting Minister of Finance, and on February 26, 2002, she became the Minister of Finance.

On the basis of the vote of confidence from the parliament, on April 19, 2005, Greceanaya was appointed as the Minister of Finance by the decree of the President of Moldova. On October 10, 2005, she was appointed as the First Deputy Prime Minister by the decree of the president. She also served as the co-chair of the Moldovan-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

On March 21, 2008, she was appointed as the Prime Minister by the decree of the president. In July 2005, Greceanaya participated in the mayoral elections in Chisinau and received a significant number of votes. However, the elections were declared invalid due to the low voter turnout.

Later Career and Personal Life

On May 13, 2009, Greceanaya was nominated as the main candidate for the presidency of Moldova by the Communist Party of Moldova. However, she failed to secure the necessary number of votes in the presidential elections held on May 20, 2009, due to the opposition's boycott.

On September 14, 2009, she resigned from the position of Prime Minister and became a member of the Moldovan Parliament. On November 4, 2011, Greceanaya left the Communist Party faction in the parliament along with deputies Igor Dodon and Veronika Abramchuk.

Zinaida Greceanaya is married and has two children.
