Patimat Abakarova: A Formidable Taekwondo Champion
Early Life and CareerPatimat Abakarova was born on October 23, 1994, in Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia. She initially trained in karate but later transitioned to taekwondo. Her training ground was the state-of-the-art Martial Arts Center in Makhachkala.
Invitation to Azerbaijan
In 2013, Abakarova received an invitation to compete in the Azerbaijan Open Championships. Her exceptional performance, defeating all her opponents, caught the attention of the Azerbaijan Ministry of Sports.
Debut and International Success
In 2014, Abakarova officially joined the Azerbaijani team. Her debut was at the inaugural European Games in Baku, where she secured a bronze medal.
Olympic Bronze at Rio 2016
Abakarova's journey to Olympic bronze began in the 49kg weight category at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Despite an initial loss to Tijana Bogdanović of Serbia, her opponent's advancement to the final gave Abakarova a second chance.
In the bronze medal match, Abakarova faced two-time Olympic and World champion Jingyu Wu of China. After trailing for most of the contest, Abakarova rallied and executed a successful three-point head kick, securing the win (4:3). She then effortlessly defeated Yasmina Aziez of France (7:2) in the small final.
