Abdu Jammeh: A Gambian Footballer
Abdu Jammeh is a Gambian footballer who currently plays as a center-back for Al-Shamal. He has also represented the Gambia national team.
Early Career and Move to Russia
Jammeh began his football career with Steve Biko, playing for the team from 2002 to 2004. In 2005, he joined the Tunisian club Zarzis. During a preseason tour in Turkey in 2007, Russian club Tekstilshchik-Telekom expressed interest in signing Jammeh. He joined the club on a one-year contract, becoming the team's first foreign player.
Jammeh made his debut in the Russian First Division on April 10th against Terek Grozny. He played a total of 12 matches for Tekstilshchik-Telekom.
Stint at Torpedo Moscow
In January 2008, Jammeh joined Torpedo Moscow on a three-year contract. He played 17 matches for the club during the 2008 season.
Move to Belgium and International Debut
In February 2009, Jammeh went on trial with Belgian club Lierse and signed a contract with the team in March.
Jammeh made his international debut for Gambia in 2006 in a World Cup qualifying match against Liberia. He played six matches in the qualifying tournament, but Gambia failed to qualify for the World Cup.
Family and Personal Life
Jammeh's father is an art teacher, and his mother is a homemaker. He has two sisters and a younger brother.
