Early Life and Education
Abram Mikhailovich Dragomirov received his education at the Page Corps (1887) and the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff (1893).
Military Career
After graduating, Dragomirov joined the Life Guards Semenovsky Regiment. He held various staff and command positions in the Caucasus region and the Warsaw Military District.
World War I
At the start of World War I, Dragomirov led the 2nd Separate Cavalry Brigade. He distinguished himself in the Battle of Kraców, earning the Order of St. George (4th degree). His brigade was later expanded into the 16th Cavalry Division, which he commanded.
In 1915, Dragomirov took over the IX Army Corps, which fought against German forces during the Gorlice-Tarnów Offensive. Despite fierce resistance, his corps sustained heavy losses.
Army Commander
In 1916, Dragomirov commanded the 5th Army on the Northern Front. He led the army in the disastrous наступление, which resulted in heavy casualties.
Political Involvement
During the February Revolution, Dragomirov supported the Provisional Government. However, he opposed the Bolsheviks and joined the White Army.
Leadership in the White Army
Dragomirov served as an assistant to General Mikhail Alekseev in the formation of the Volunteer Army. After Alekseev's death, he became chairman of the Special Council, effectively acting as a government for the White Army under Anton Denikin.
Later Life and Exile
After the defeat of the White Army, Dragomirov emigrated to Serbia and then to France. He remained active in the Russian military community, advocating for the Vlasov Movement during World War II. He spent his final years in France, where he died in 1950.
