Hermann Hupfeld

Hermann Hupfeld (1802-1896) was a German Protestant theologian and professor at the University of Bonn.

Early Life and Education

Hermann Hupfeld was born in Marburg, Hesse-Darmstadt, on 31 March 1802. He studied theology at the Universities of Halle and Göttingen, where he completed his doctorate in 1825.

Academic Career

In 1829, Hupfeld was appointed professor of Oriental languages at the University of Halle. In 1833, he moved to the University of Marburg as a professor of Old Testament theology. In 1843, he was appointed to the chair of Old Testament theology at the University of Bonn, where he taught until his retirement in 1889.

Hupfeld authored several influential works on biblical theology and philology, including:
