A Biography of El Jefferson
El Jefferson, also known as "Big El," is an American professional basketball player who plays as a center and power forward. He was born on January 4, 1985, in Monticello, Mississippi.
Early Life and Education
El Jefferson attended Prentiss High School in Mississippi, where he played basketball for the school team. Over his four years of high school, he averaged 42.6 points, 18 rebounds, and 7 steals per game. After graduating in 2004, El received a sports scholarship to attend Arkansas State University. However, he declined the offer after being selected in the NBA draft by the Boston Celtics.
Professional Career
El Jefferson began his professional career with the Boston Celtics in 2004. In his first season, he played in 71 games but only started in one. His average stats for the 2004-2005 season were 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds in 14.8 minutes per game. The following season, El faced injuries and was only able to play in 59 games, but his performance improved with averages of 7.9 points and 5.1 rebounds in 18 minutes per game.
In the offseason before the 2006-2007 season, El hired a personal chef to help him regain his form after recovering from injuries. He managed to lose around 14 kilograms and started the season in excellent shape. However, he underwent foot surgery in the summer of 2006 and later had his appendix removed in November of the same year. Despite these setbacks, El's career continued to thrive, and his averages significantly improved. He finished the 2006-2007 season with averages of 16 points and 11 rebounds in 33.6 minutes per game.
In July 2007, El Jefferson, along with other players, officially joined the Minnesota Timberwolves. In his first season with the Timberwolves, El became the team's leader, starting in all 82 games and averaging around 21 points per game. He proved to be one of the leading players in the NBA, finishing fifth in the league with 11.1 rebounds per game and second in offensive rebounds with 3.8.
During the 2008-2009 season, El had his best career performance, averaging 23.1 points, 11 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game in 50 games. However, he suffered a knee injury in February 2009, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament. After undergoing surgery and an eight-month recovery, El returned to the court in late September 2009.
Currently, El Jefferson continues to play for the Minnesota Timberwolves, with average stats of 15.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game for the season.
