Early Life and Military Service
Born in Latvia, this prominent figure served as a Soviet party and state official. During his early years, he was elected as a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the Latvian SSR for three consecutive terms. In November 1940, he enlisted in the Red Army.
In the midst of the Great Patriotic War, he played an integral role in the defense of Moscow as an aviation armament mechanic in the 1st Latvian Night Light Bomber Aviation Regiment. In a fateful turn of events, he sustained a severe injury in December 1941 at the Battle of Narofominsk.
Following his recovery, he continued serving as a mechanic and later became a pilot in various aviation units, including the 1st High-Speed Bomber Aviation Regiment, the 313th Night Short-Range Bomber Aviation Division, and the 191st Rifle Division. He was demobilized in 1946 with the rank of major.
Post-War Career in Politics
In the post-war years, the official embarked on various civilian pursuits, including working as a driver and a factory director. In 1948, he joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Pursuing his education, he graduated from the Higher Party School under the Central Committee of the CPSU.
His political career skyrocketed beginning in 1951 when he became the chairman of a collective farm. From 1952 onwards, he held several key positions within the party apparatus, including secretary of the Rezekne District Party Committee, first secretary of the Cesvaine District Party Committee, and later the Gulbene District Party Committee.
Later Appointments and Honors
In 1965, he was appointed as the director of the Riga Soviet-Party School under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Latvia. The following year, he became the secretary of the Latvian Republican Council of Trade Unions.
During his tenure, he was recognized for his contributions to the community and the nation, receiving numerous honors. These included the Order of the Patriotic War 1st and 2nd class, the Medal "For the Defense of Moscow," the Medal "For Courage," and the Medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945."
