Alexander Bakumenko: Ukrainian Politician and Agricultural Advocate
Early Life and EducationAlexander Bakumenko was born on April 29, 1959, in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Following in the footsteps of his brother, he graduated with honors from the Kharkiv Zooveterinary Institute in 1983, specializing in zooengineering. Concurrently, he worked as a foreman at the institute's experimental farm.
Military Service and Agricultural Career
From 1983 to 1984, Bakumenko served in the Soviet Armed Forces, retiring as a lieutenant. Subsequently, he held various positions in agricultural firms from 1985 to 1998, both in state-owned and private enterprises after Ukraine gained independence.
Public and Advocacy Work
Beginning in 1999, Bakumenko engaged in public and organizational work, consulting for and representing the interests of Ukrainian poultry enterprises. In 2003, he became chairman of the board of the association "Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine," a role he held until his election to parliament in 2014.
Rise in Influence
In 2006, Bakumenko participated in the International Poultry Council (USA) and the National Agricultural Chamber of Ukraine. In 2007, he became general director of the association "Union of Feed Producers of Ukraine." He also played a key role in the Council of National Associations of Commodity Producers, where he chaired the Committee for Protection of the Domestic Market.
Through these activities, Bakumenko consistently engaged with policymakers and the press, highlighting critical issues in Ukrainian agriculture and lobbying for legislative measures to protect domestic producers.
Parliamentary Career
In 2014, Bakumenko was elected to the Ukrainian Parliament as part of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc's party list. In parliament, he serves as deputy chairman of the Committee on Agrarian Policy and Land Relations. He is known for his high attendance rate, having participated in over 95% of plenary sessions.
Hobbies
Since childhood, Bakumenko has been an avid soccer enthusiast. He enjoys playing or watching soccer matches whenever possible, both on television and in stadiums.
