Early Life and Education

Oleksandr Horhan was born into a family of physicians on May 1, 1975, in Ukraine. As a Ukrainian Christian of the Greek Catholic faith, he adheres to the values of his religious upbringing.

After completing his education with honors at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Law School in 1997, Horhan continued his studies in international affairs. In 1995, he spent time at Edwards Language School in London, and in 2001 he participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in the United States.

Legal and Business Career

While studying law at university, Horhan co-founded the "Justinian" law firm. From 1998 to 2001, he was a partner and co-owner of the legal firm "YUZHYURBYRO OLAZ". He practiced as an attorney from 2002 to 2015.

Political Career

Elected Offices

Horhan embarked on his political career as a member of the Vyshhorod City Council from 2005 to 2010, representing the "Pora" Civic Party. In 2015, he was elected to the Kyiv Regional Council as a member of the "Petro Poroshenko Bloc 'Solidarity'".

Government Service

In March 2015, Horhan was appointed Chairman of the Vyshhorod District State Administration of the Kyiv Region. In October 2016, he was elected Chairman of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, a position he held until his resignation two years later.

Sports Endeavors

Horhan's passion for athletics began in his youth, where he excelled in boxing, swimming, and track and field. In 2008, he took up kayaking and competed in a 1,500 km expedition across the Indian Ocean in 2011.

Since 2012, Horhan has dedicated himself to triathlon. In 2014, he earned the title of "Ironman" after completing the grueling Ironman Triathlon in Germany, consisting of a 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike ride, and 42.2 km run. Additionally, he was elected to the Presidium of the Ukrainian Canoe Slalom Federation in 2009 and became Honorary President of the Ukrainian Canoe Polo Federation in 2014.

Social Activism

Youth Movement Involvement

Horhan's commitment to youth activism started in 1989 when he joined the underground nationalist organization, the Union of Independent Ukrainian Youth (SNUM). Later, he became a member and president of the All-Ukrainian Student Union and served as Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian National Committee of Youth Organizations.

Anti-Corruption and Donor Advocacy

In 2000, Horhan co-founded the All-Ukrainian Youth Movement "Youth Against Corruption," which he continues to lead as president. He also initiated the establishment of the Association of Young Donors of Ukraine in 2006, promoting blood donation and providing support to children with cancer.

Protection of Ukrainian Language

Horhan actively opposed the "Kolesnichenko-Kivanov Law," which aimed to restrict the use of the Ukrainian language, by participating in protests in 2012.

Euromaidan Involvement

During the Euromaidan protests in 2013-2014, Horhan served as commander of the Self-Defense Guard and played a role in organizing mass protests against the government.

Recognition and Awards

Horhan's contributions to society have been acknowledged with numerous awards and honors, including:

- Order of Merit, III degree (1999)

- Certificate of Honor from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (2004)

- Premium from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for Contribution of Youth to State Development (2001)
