Early Life and Education
Alexandros Koumoundouros was born in the Greek island of Hydra. He received his education at the esteemed University of Athens.
Political Career
Early Political InvolvementKoumoundouros entered the political arena in 1850 as a member of the parliament. His exceptional oratorical skills soon made him a prominent figure. In 1855, he was elected President of the Chamber. Subsequently, he held the ministerial position of Minister of Finance on several occasions.
Involvement in the 1862 Revolution
Koumoundouros actively participated in the 1862 Revolution and became a member of the first revolutionary government. He held various ministerial posts, including Minister of Justice, Minister of Religion and Education, and Minister of the Interior.
Prime Minister of Greece
First Prime MinistershipOn March 14, 1865, Koumoundouros formed his first government, serving until November 1. He went on to serve as Prime Minister of Greece for eight more terms:

Accomplishments as Prime Minister
Koumoundouros was renowned as a skilled financier. However, despite his efforts, Greece's financial situation continued to deteriorate each year. Notably, during his final ministry (1880-1882), he achieved the annexation of Thessaly and part of Epirus to Greece.
Later Years
Economic Development InitiativesIn 1881, Koumoundouros signed contracts with four contractors to build railway lines, aiming to stimulate the country's development.
Family
Koumoundouros had two sons. His elder son, Konstantinos, became a general-lieutenant and served as Minister of War and Navy. His other son, Spyridon, also pursued a political career.
