Biography of Alexei Garkusha
Alexei Garkusha is a prominent Ukrainian politician and economist. He was born on February 16, 1952, in the village of Balovnoye, Novoodesky district, Nikolaev region. After completing school, Garkusha worked as a fitter at the 61 Kommunar Shipyard in Nikolaev.

Garkusha went on to study at the Faculty of Economic Cybernetics at the Odessa Agricultural Institute, graduating in 1975. He then became the chief economist of the "Ogni Kommunizma" collective farm in the village of Khristoforovka, Bashtansky district, and later held leadership positions in several agricultural enterprises in the Zhovtnevy district.
In 1991, Garkusha became the head of the Zhovtnevy district state administration and served in this position until 1995. In 1993, he graduated from the Odessa National University named after I.I. Mechnikov with a degree in political science.
From 1996 to 1998, Garkusha served as the First Deputy Head of the Nikolaev Oblast State Administration. In 1998, he was elected as a member of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, representing the Agrarian Party of Ukraine.
In 1999, Garkusha took on the role of the governor of the Nikolaev region and held this position until 2005. After his resignation, he worked at the "Ukraine" University. In July 2007, Garkusha was appointed as the acting head of the Nikolaev Oblast State Administration by a decree of President Viktor Yushchenko and later became the head of the administration on October 16.
Despite being offered a place on the electoral list of the Block of Lytvyn during the parliamentary elections in September 2007, Garkusha chose to remain in his position as governor. However, on March 18, 2010, he was relieved of his duties as the head of the Nikolaev Oblast State Administration by a decree of President Viktor Yanukovych.
In addition to his political career, Garkusha holds a doctorate in economics and is a professor. He has been honored with the Order for Merits of the II and III degrees for his contributions to Ukraine. Garkusha continues to lead the Nikolaev Regional Organization of the People's Party, maintaining his influence in regional politics.
