Early Life and Education
Aliza Lavie was born on September 23, 1964, in Kfar Saba, Israel. She served in the Israel Defense Forces, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. She then pursued academic studies at Bar-Ilan University, earning a bachelor's degree in geography, a master's degree in economics, and a doctorate in political science. She also completed postdoctoral studies at Rutgers University.
Academic and Media Career
Lavie worked as a researcher at Brandeis University and later joined Bar-Ilan University as a lecturer in the Political Science Department. From 1990 to 2008, she was a television host on Israel's Channel 1 and Channel 10.
Political Career
Lavie joined the Yesh Atid party and secured the seventh spot on its electoral list for the 19th Knesset elections. With Yesh Atid winning 19 seats, Lavie entered parliament and became Chairwoman of the Committee for the Advancement of the Status of Women and served on the House Committee and Finance Committee.
Advocacy for Women's Rights
In June 2013, Lavie introduced a bill to increase female representation on the committee that selects judges for religious courts. The proposal expanded the committee to 11 members, guaranteeing the presence of at least four women. Religious parties strongly opposed the bill, with MK Uri Maklev calling it an "attack on Judaism."

She received the National Jewish Book Award in 2008 for her literary contributions.
