Julio Cesar La Cruz: Cuban Boxing Legend
Amateur CareerBorn in Guantanamo, Cuba on February 21, 1993, Julio Cesar La Cruz began his amateur boxing career at the tender age of 16. In 2009, he emerged victorious at the World Cadet Championships, claiming the gold medal in the 57kg weight class.
Rising Star (2014-2015)
La Cruz's dominance continued in the years that followed. In 2014, he captured the gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games, followed by victory at the Pan American Games in 2015. The pinnacle of his amateur career came in 2015 when he became the World Champion in the 75kg weight class, defeating formidable opponents along the way.
Olympic Glory (2016-2020)
La Cruz cemented his status as an Olympic legend with his first gold medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. He repeated his triumph in Tokyo in 2021, claiming victory in the 81kg weight class.
Professional Journey
In 2022, La Cruz made his professional debut, winning by first-round knockout against Mexican Fernando Galvan. He has since competed in a semi-professional bout in 2023, but fell short against Russian boxer Imam Khatayev.
