Arshak Poladyan: Armenian Diplomat

Arshak Poladyan is an Armenian diplomat, historian, and Arabic linguist. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in History and Geography from the Armenian Pedagogical Institute named after Kh. Abovyan between 1968 and 1972. Poladyan then pursued his studies in Arabic and Islamic studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Armenian SSR Academy of Sciences from 1974 to 1979.

Early Career

From 1965 to 1967, Poladyan worked as an Arabic typesetter at the printing house of the Academy of Sciences in Echmiadzin. He later joined the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Armenian SSR Academy of Sciences, where he worked from 1967 to 2000. During his tenure, he specialized in Arab countries and established himself as an expert in the field.

Academic and Administrative Roles

In 1991, Poladyan became the head of the Department of Arabic Philology at the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Yerevan State University. He held this position until 2000. Simultaneously, from 1993 to 2000, he served as the head of the Department of Arab Countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. In 1998, Poladyan also took on the role of advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, focusing on the Middle East.

Diplomatic Assignments

In 2000, Poladyan was appointed as Armenia's Chargé d'Affaires in the United Arab Emirates. His diplomatic career continued to flourish when he became the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to the United Arab Emirates from 2002 to 2006. He concurrently served as the Ambassador to the Republic of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Bahrain from 2003 to 2007.

Later Career

In April 2007, Poladyan assumed the role of Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. Later that year, in August, he was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to the Syrian Arab Republic. Throughout his career, Poladyan has made significant contributions to diplomacy, academia, and the promotion of Armenian interests in the Arab world.
