Ashot Agababyan: Biography of an Armenian Parliament Deputy

Ashot Sergeevich Agababyan (Armenian: Աշոտ Սերգեևիչ Ագաբաբյան; born November 8, 1952, in Yerevan) is a deputy of the Armenian Parliament. He graduated from the Yerevan Institute of National Economy in 1973-1978, majoring in economics. Ashot Agababyan was awarded the Order for Military Service in 1996. He also served in the Soviet Army from 1970 to 1972.

Early Career

In 1974, Agababyan worked as a knotter at the Yerevan Silk Combine, and from 1974 to 1977, he worked as a locksmith at the same combine. In 1977-1978, he worked as an economist, and later as an engineer at the Yerevan Knitting Combine. In 1979, he became a senior economist at the "Armpassazhirtrans" trust. From 1979 to 1980, he managed Store No. 3 of the Food Trade Department of the Executive Committee of Yerevan City Council. From 1980 to 1983, he served as the deputy manager of Store No. 6 in Yerevan. From 1983 to 1992, he was the manager of Store No. 4 in Yerevan.

Involvement in the Independence Movement

Since 1988, Agababyan actively participated in the military-patriotic organization "Army of Independence" during the armed conflict. He served as a member of the military council and the chief of staff of the army. From 1990 to 1993, he was a deputy of the Mashtots District Council in Yerevan.

Career in Sports and Politics

From 1993 to 1999, Agababyan served as the general director of the sports complex "Razdan." Since 1999, he has been the chairman of the board of directors of the CJSC "Razdan Sports Complex Rental Enterprise." In 2002-2003, he held the position of chairman of the Football Federation of Yerevan. From 2003 to 2007, he served as a deputy of the parliament and was a member of the permanent commission on science, education, culture, and youth. Agababyan is a member of the "Republican Party of Armenia." On May 12, 2007, he was re-elected as a parliament deputy, still being a member of the "Republican Party of Armenia."
