Ayin Aleph: Russian-Born French-American Singer and Pianist
Early Years and Musical TrainingAyin Aleph, born in Moscow, began playing the piano at the tender age of four. Inspired by a music school near her home, she snuck into a lesson despite being too young and impressed the teacher, who enrolled her in solfège classes. Recognized for her exceptional talent, she studied under renowned composer Dmitry Kabalevsky and performed at concerts sponsored by the Moscow Union of Composers before reaching her teenage years.
Conservatory Years and Theatrical Pursuits
At 15, Aleph enrolled in the Moscow Conservatory, where she furthered her piano studies. She also briefly attended a renowned Moscow theater school, but her busy schedule and passion for music led her to abandon acting. During this period, she wrote numerous poems.
Emigration to Europe and Musical Diversification
Seeking to expand her musical horizons, Aleph left Russia in 1990. In 1992, she settled in Paris and entered the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. In 1993, she joined the European Conservatory, where she studied under Bach specialist Igor Lascko. She began teaching music and piano, gaining a reputation as a dedicated and ambitious educator.
The Transition to Metal: "Baroque Metal"
After experiencing disappointment with the French film industry, Aleph returned to music and embraced vocals. Collaborating with Argentine tenor Jorge de Leon, she experimented with various genres, including rap, dance, techno, and rock. However, it was the creation of the video "Valpurgis Night" that transformed her career. The video's success on German television led Aleph to delve deeply into the world of metal. Her unique blend of piano, cello, guitar, and drums, combined with her operatic vocals, earned her the moniker "Baroque metal."
International Acclaim and Musical Collaborations
Aleph has released six music videos, broadcast on A-ONE, an alternative music television channel. Her 2008 performance at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen festival further solidified her international reputation. She has collaborated with notable musicians from Misanthrope and Paradise Lost, who now form part of her band. Aleph creates all arrangements, except for the drums, and her choral performances often feature over 150 voices recorded by herself.
